Question

upload preview MS word doc

asked on June 30, 2023

I've set all upload to "show upload images".  So far ive noticed PDF, PNG, JPEG shows previews but not DOCX or .msg extension uploads.  Does anyone know of a way to get previews of MS word/.docx files to show upload previews on the form?

As a follow-up, I would like to elaborate on the Laserfiche Document Preview Service (LDPS). This is a part of the Web Client installation package and it facilitates the read-only viewing of MS Office documents in your browser.

How does it accomplish this if browsers can't natively display Office docs? The LDPS functions by rendering each page of an MS Office document into image files (in png format) and then transmitting those to the browser.

The Office Online integration is required to view / edit / search / etc. the "real" Office docs in their native format.

Not applicable to Forms, but relevant to the general topic.

I don't believe this is something that can be done out-of-the-box. The thing to note is that the option for file uploads is to show "image previews" rather than "document" previews.

The reason this works with image and PDF files is that pretty much all browsers have native support for displaying these items within the browser.

However, other formats like .docx and .msg are not natively supported in browsers, so you need something else to open/read and display the content.
