import Agent File Name - How to Separate

I am doing my first import agent for a bulk student records project. We have a 3rd party scanning the documents for us and I am testing documents to see how to import these to Laserfiche (hosted).

 

The file name is Student ID-Last Name-Document Description of the pdfs.

 

How can I separate the file name in the profile of import agent to put this metadata in the correct fields?

Hi Kaeli,

I don't believe you can use the token editor in Import Agent to parse out the individual values you want with a regular expression. What I usually do is have Import Agent put the files into a folder that Workflow is monitoring, and Workflow can identify the individual pieces of information you want out of the document name with the Pattern Matching activity, and then you can put those tokens into field values using the Assign Field Values activity.

This all assumes you have access to Laserfiche Workflow.

I wish I knew that before buying Import Agent. If I have to use Workflow for this simple task, I would've used a Workflow for everything for no extra cost!

Import Agent makes the initial import part of the process easy, but I agree with the sentiment - I wish the token editor was available in apps like Import Agent and Forms to eliminate the step with Workflow.
