I'm not aware of any "hard" limit on briefcase size, however, larger briefcases will be inherently more prone to errors due to the size so it's best to keep it to a minimum whenever possible.

For example, a "large" briefcase requires more processing time/resources to pack/unpack the contents, and they will be more susceptible to errors caused by issues with individual documents in the briefcase.

If you could provide more information about your specific scenario, I'm sure many of us here could provide some insights/recommendations based on our own experience.

Here is my scenario that I hope can help for any recommendations.

We are scanning all of our current active student files using a third party who would be able to provide a briefcase.

It is estimated that we will have 850,000 pages scanned during this project. We are looking at different options such as hard drives and trying to figure out the best decision for delivery of the documents.

I suppose it depends on what the vendor can provide. For example, are they providing any metadata to accompany the documents, what format, etc.

If they're just providing a bunch of PDF files to import, then that is very different from providing a Laserfiche briefcase that includes metadata.

If they're providing briefcases, then that will influence things because the metadata fields would need to match your repo to avoid duplicates and such.

If they're only providing something simple like PDFs, then you could handle imports with Import Agent and no need for massive briefcases.

Even if they're providing metadata, that could also be done using XML files and Import Agent, so the "best" solution can really depend on the options.

The big question is what they can provide, and the follow up is whether you want to run this as bulk imports like briefcases, or with a steady influx through something like Import Agent.

No hard limits, I did a 500GB briefcase not too long ago without any issues.

Hello,

Do you know the approximate size of files you used? I have about 850,000 pages that will be scanned.
