Question

domain change

asked on April 27, 2023

Hi,

We will be changing our domain name (we are a government agency) and preparing for all that will need to be done with our Laserfiche applications and installation.

Is there a recommended step process that Laserfiche recommends? We have Forms, Workflow, QF, Weblink and import agent.

The following are some of the items we have defined. If anyone has done this and has any suggestions or advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

1) updating certificates

2)  updating all emails that are being used in all applications

3) updaging server hostnames

4) unregistering the repository in LF Admin console, while still working in old domain and update the workflow connection profile

Hello again,

I found out that we are not changing our AD domain, so we will not need to migrate any user accounts.

Thank you.

Hi Debby,

Are your agency's AD user accounts getting migrated to the new domain as well?
If so, how?

As to the rest of your questions, we have someone who semi-recently helped a customer with a similar domain change who can likely share some suggestions and advice. They're currently out of office and will be back early next week. I've sent this post to them for review upon their return.

Hi Sameul,

This is almost a year late but can we get the suggestions? We have Client that will be changing their domain name.

The AD users will be migrated to the new domain. They are going from something like ad.laserrfiche.org to laserfiche.org.

Regards

Also have a customer asking for another domain migration. We have seen many migrations over the years for LF systems and the last post I made was regarding the fact that the repository supports migrating the user accounts and groups with an sID carry over but Forms does not have any support. So users lose all their forms accounts, history, task assignments, reports, etc.

Domain migrations are common place with companies wanting to switch from .local to .com, merging with bigger companies, or spinning off a new company.

My understanding is that we're working on an updated general "User Migration Utility" (name TBD) than covers all common Self-hosted Laserfiche products and can do all* (most) directions of user migration/conversion, including from one AD domain to another.

I'm not aware of any specific target release dates at this time, but we know there's a strong need for it and it's in the pipeline.

We've got an agency about to go through a domain change as well and we are trying to work out the best way to do it. Our LF tech support rep mentioned this utility but didn't know exactly how far along they were with it. He was going to ask the development team for us.

I'm guessing it won't be ready before we make the move. And that's not a complaint. I understand with all the LF 12 stuff going on that resources are constrained at the moment.

Hi Samuel,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write back and forward this on to this other person.

Our AD accounts will be migrated to the new domain as well. I do not know how they will be doing it. We are in the planning stages now and trying to get a project plan and all the specifics in there.

Thank you.
