Question

Search Audit Trail using Metadata

asked on April 27, 2023

Hello,

I was wondering if it is possible to search the audit trail by specific Metadata Values?

Typically my users ask me to find what happened to a missing file by giving me a value of one of their metadata fields as they typically don't know exactly what the entry name is.

Doesn't appear that you can do so directly within Audit Trail. I'd use the metadata value to run a repository search (including one in the global Recycle Bin) and try to get the Entry ID that way. You can then use the Entry ID value as a filter in Audit Trail.

Run a report with the "Entry: Write Field Value" Event Type selected (along with any relevant user or date range filters).

Apply it. Then apply column filters on the "Request data" column for "Field name" and "Field value".

We're aware this should be more intuitive.

Thank you for the assistance. This is making it a lot easier to find out what has happened to files.

It should be noted that the results of Audit Trail searches depend on how much data you load into it. If you only keep 30 days worth of data available for reporting and the field value was set more than 30 days ago, your search will not return it.
