Question

can't edit variable in version 11

asked on April 13, 2023 Show version history

I have been able to edit variables (when needed after initial submission) on Forms since we upgraded to version 11; however, there is one form that I created a week ago that will not allow me to edit the variables.

It is a simple RVSP that only has 5 fields. Someone got creative and I need to edit one item. I went to the Monitor tab, selected the instance and entered the variables area. "Edit" is not there for me to select, but it is on all other forms, that I have checked.

Any ideas on why this might have happened?

Yeah, it won't let you edit variables on a completed instance.

One other idea - if you are on Version 11 Update 3, you can restart a User Task on a Completed instance as long as the task is not in a sub process and it isn't a problem for you for that task and everything after it to be repeated.  That would allow you to re-open it, which would include the ability to edit variables again once it is open.

Is the instance Completed or Cancelled?

What is listed on the Process Access Rights for your user?

OH...it all makes sense now. The instance is completed and that is why I can't edit the variables. Too bad, it would have helped with reporting.

Ability to restart will be amazing! We have not updated that far yet, but I am excited to do so after hearing about the restart feature.

Thanks for your help. smiley

Update 3 was big, I would recommend getting to that version if you can.

Not only did it include quality of life improvements like the restart ability, but it included huge changes to the Forms Layout Designer (the new designer) including really helpful options with field rules (show/hide submit button, change whether fields are required or optional, etc.), and Javascript functionality (note that it is very different from, and in some ways more limited than, the Javascript functionality from the Forms Classic Designer - but it's still helpful to have it included where it wasn't previously).
