icompass integration not working - any ideas?

We are trying to get iCompass to integrate with Laserfiche. To my understanding, it hasn't worked for years, if ever (I am fairly new to this role). 

The iCompass instructions are very basic: open ports on the firewall and add IP exceptions. Enter live/public IP-address and Laserfiche DB. My networking team tested and found all traffic was allowed. When we test the connection, it always fails (users are AD, and we tried a LF user account).  

So it almost seems something on our Laserfiche web server, maybe? iCompass has not been able to help yet (ticket opened over 3 weeks ago) and my LF vendor doesn't have experience with iCompass. 

Anyone have a similar issue, and fix that they can share?

Hi Heather,

This sounds like a custom integration. We can more likely productively assist in troubleshooting if you can describe the expected integration flow at a high level.

Is iCompass attempting to connect to Laserfiche or vis versa or is it bi-directional? 

Which Laserfiche components are involved in making/receiving the calls?

How is authentication supposed to work for the integration?

What specific error messages are you seeing? "Connection failed" can mean many different things from network connectivity to authentication issues. Often there's an event log or similar error message that describes where/how exactly the error is occurring in more detail.

Thank you so much for your response! You ask wonderful questions, and they would've been hard for me to answer because the setup is so basic, their documentation is small, and error logs are not to be found. 

But, I finally heard back from iCompass this morning and sadly they said: 

Our Development Team informed us that unfortunately, it is not possible to integrate the newer versions of Laserfiche with iCompass as they have decided to discontinue systems integration, so this option should only be available for connections generated in the previous version of the system.

Again, I appreciate your response!

To clarify, iCompass said that they "decided to discontinue systems integration" and that the option is only available for connections generated in the previous version of the iCompass system?

Sounded like the issue is entirely on their side but I want to make sure I'm reading that right.

I read it to mean: 

[the iCompass Development Team] decided to discontinue systems integration, so this option should only be available for connections generated [older versions of Laserfiche]

Perhaps it's older versions of the iCompass system, but really I don't know. Our integration hasn't worked in a while, so I can't say when it broke. Though I am surprised other customers haven't said anything, or that this information isn't on the support page. Or maybe they just decided? Perhaps Laserfiche could work with them to encourage them to develop it, as integration is what we are seeking.
