Question

Licensing via AD Groups

asked on February 24, 2023

Hello, I have a customer who has hundreds of users and relatively high turnover.  They would really like to use AD groups to control Laserfiche access and assign/revoke licenses by group membership.

I've seen a few posts about assigning participant licenses to an AD group in LFDS and anyone who belongs in that group gains a license so long as you have available licenses to allocate.  I've also seen some posts claiming the feature doesn't quite work like that (either through syncing issues or still having to manually assign/revoke licenses to each user in LFDS).

I did a minor test in LFDS myself by going to the Users tab and clicking the + User button.  When searching the directory, I can locate AD groups but clicking on the group just adds all the members of that group to the list and I would have to go select the license for each user individually.

Can someone give me a definitive answer on whether or not this can be setup with automatic licensing by group? If it can be done, can you point me in the right direction?

Did you check out the synchronization setup in the admin guide?

Hundreds of users is fine as the system can handle thousands.

Hi Grant,

YES! it can be done.

I recommend you create at least 3 groups in your active directory that you will connect with Laserfiche.

Laserfiche Admin Group ( Full Access User)
Laserfiche Write Group ( for me these users can't see redactions or delete records)
Laserfiche Read Only group. (users that only have read access) ** Weblink Access **
