Question

Where to save Word doc that will be made available to a public form?

asked on February 23, 2023

Could someone give me some direction as to where to save a Word doc (a template) that will be made available on a public access Laserfiche form via URL?

My understanding is that my only option is to place this Word doc template on our website, however, I'm struggling with where on the website since it is not something we really want cluttering up any of our web pages.

If I just leave it on our SharePoint site, then they would need credentials to log into our SP site in order to open the document.

On your WebHost, go to "C:\inetpub\wwwroot" and create a folder for the form name.  Then copy the form docx into that folder.  Your download link would be like:

  • http(s)://Server.URL/FormName/Form.docx

I created a folder on my LFForms server named "downloadable-documents".

The full path on the server is:

C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\Laserfiche Forms\Forms\downloadable-documents

I put the documents in there that I need people to be able to download.

The on my form, I add a Custom HTML field with a link to the document, like this:

<a href="/forms/downloadable-documents/Example.DOCX" target="_blank">Click Here to Download Example.DOCX</a>

The only thing I struggle with a bit is remembering to put a copy on both our internal forms server and our public one.

Thanks, Matthew.  This reminds me that IT did create a place on our server for things the Forms processes could access... usually things that the emails needed access to like an image signature line.  But this is also where I could keep things like this Word doc too!

And the tip about the internal forms vs public is also something I'll need to remember!  Thanks!
