Type ahead in Repository Metadata Field

asked on February 15, 2023 Show version history

Is there any hope that there will someday be the ability to use 'type ahead' functionality in the LF Client, Web Client or Cloud?

Having the capability to do this in Forms is great, but many clients want it in the metadata within the repository as well.

A given example is a roll number (a unique number that defines a property that can be 16+ digits long).

It would be nice to type the last 6 to 8 digits of the property roll number to find it. Instead, the client has to scroll through an extremely long list to find.

I would have thought by now we would have this capability. Please tell me it's in the works.....

Thank you

I agree with Shaun.  This would be very nice.

Hi Shaun,

Does the [Settings]MaxDropDownLength attribute help in this case at all? I use it for GL codes all the time. Without the attribute, the user has to scroll through a list of GL codes to find what they want. Setting this attribute to something like '50' on the user's account allows them to start typing a GL code, and a list appears once the number of possible options is less than or equal to the value of the attribute, and keeps narrowing down the more they type into the field.

Hey Jacob,

I forgot about that option, I think I've used this in the past for on-prem. This won't work for Cloud though, which is what I need at the moment. Unless there is a way to set attributes in cloud that I'm not aware of, which is possible.

You can in Repository Administration. Select a user, and choose the Attributes tab on the right. It seems to have some limitations though. It doesn't work with multi-value fields in the Scanning application, for example.

I'll have to try that!
