Question

Entry Locks in Cloud

asked on February 9, 2023 Show version history

I can't currently change an entry ("Fire Permit..." in 1st image) in our cloud repository because I'm told it is locked, but it does not show in the locked entries list in the Activity list (with Locked and checked out set, shown in 2nd image). I cannot edit this document anymore, and I'm the only one who would be editing it. Word did not crash and as far as I know, I closed it gracefully, but I can't rename or edit the document at all.

EDIT: Figured this out; restarting the computer cleared the lock.

On top of that, we have over 100 documents locked/checked out and it's a constant issue for our users who aren't able to edit documents without an administrator releasing stale locks that are days/weeks old. When we were using on-prem Laserfiche, we had maybe 3-5 documents checked out at most and seldom had to release entry locks; usually I only had to release an entry lock if an Office app crashed, holding the lock.

Is there a way for the user to release the lock manually, or to prevent automatic checking out documents?

I'm sorry to hear about your locking issues. I would suggest opening a support case so we can investigate further. Locking is supposed to behave pretty much identically whether you're using a self-hosted or a Cloud repository, so it definitely sounds like something isn't working as intended.
