Question

Audit Trail

asked on January 18, 2023

We are currently using Laserfiche v 10.4.3. However, we have a need for installing and configuring the Audit Trail component. It looks as though the only version I can find on the support site is Version 11. IS v.11 backwards compatible with a 10.4.3 environment?

**If you are wondering, Yes we do have a plan to upgrade to 11. Unfortunately, we have a more pressing need to upgrade our server OS before we focus on the upgrade to Laserfiche.

Hey LJ,

I checked the Release Notes for Laserfiche 11 and found this info:

Laserfiche Audit Trail Software Requirements

Laserfiche Server

  • Laserfiche Audit Trail requires Laserfiche Server (version 11 or later).

So no, you cannot use Audit Trail 11 with Laserfiche Server 10.4. I would recommend that you upgrade Laserfiche Server (LFS) to 11. LFS 10.4.3 -> 11 is a small upgrade in terms of actual changes and other LF 10.4 apps are compatible with it. I've done quite a few of those LFS upgrades at this point and don't believe I've encountered a single issue in the process.

Something you should be aware of is that Audit Trail 11 switches from using a SQL backend to a local one based on Laserfiche Full-Text Search (LFFTS). This has the effect of reducing load storage usage on SQL Server and increasing it on the Audit Trail/LFFTS server. For a system your size, you should use a new separate server VM to host Audit Trail 11 to avoid performance impacts on Laserfiche Server (the machine where I believe you currently have Audit Trail installed). That Audit Trail 11 machine needs a good amount of storage (start with 300 GB) to hold the audit search catalogs (and Forms audit logs).

Thanks Sam! We did in fact decide to install Audit Trail on a less resource intensive VM in our infrastructure. I also realized that the Audit Trail install was inside of the Laserfiche Server install package that we currently have.
