Question

how to differentiate between 2 files which has same file name and same template

asked on December 15, 2022

Hi Everyone,

In our process, we have a file called truss layout and engineered layout, In laserfiche both these files have the same template called " Layout". Both these files have the same file name as well but there is difference in the content.

Is there a way I can add an identifier for all Engineered layout?

Is it possible to add a tag to all engineered layout as "ENG"?

Is it possible to add these tag when the file is uploaded on to laserfiche via the forms?

Kindly advise. Thank you

It sounds like your Template should have an additional metadata field for "layout type" or something along those lines.

A list field would probably be ideal since that would make searches pretty easy too. Just create a field with something like "Truss" and "Engineered" as list options, then set it when you create/store the document in the repository.

Hi Jason,

I can create a layout type field, but are you suggesting that everytime a user upload a truss layout, they fill in the field as " Truss"?

Kindly advise.

Thank you

Whichever method you would identify/set the "tag" you mentioned is how you would determine/set the field value.

I don't really know what you had in mind, but if you want to automate it then you'd need some indicator that could be used to determine the correct value regardless of what approach you decide to take.

The easiest would be to have it as a list field in the template so it would just be a dropdown and the user could just select the appropriate one.

If you want to automate it somehow, then you'd need a way to determine which is which and you could do it with workflow or something.

It all depends.

Yes I will think about this and check with client how they would prefer.

Thank you Jason.
