Using Veeam Backup with Laserfiche Server - with Application-Aware Processing?

asked on December 8, 2022

Anyone using VEEAM Backup and have the "Application-Aware Processing" turned on?  From their HelpCenter site: To create transactionally consistent backups or replicas of VMs that run Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Exchange or Oracle, you must enable application-aware processing in job settings.

Are there any negative interactions with the Laserfiche Server with these settings?

Thanks!

Nope, only a positive one!

Veeam Application-Aware Processing works by hooking the Windows Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS). In simple terms, VSS-aware applications flush any pending transactions before a backup is taken to ensure they're in a consistent state.

The Laserfiche Full-Text Search Service (LFFTS) supports VSS backups. See: Backing Up Your Search Index Files

From that documentation article:

This will coordinate the process of stopping all catalog actions while the backup takes place and then resuming them once the backup is complete. (During the actual backup, search and indexing will be unavailable, but will become available again automatically once the backup is complete.) To use an automatic backup solution with VSS, you must first ensure that the Laserfiche VSS Writer service is running, as it is stopped by default.
