Question

Workflow states it does not have access to C:\ProgramData\Laserfiche\WF\ServerData - What account is it using?

asked on December 6, 2022 Show version history

Workflow has been consistently stating for the last month or so that it does not have access to this directory. I was under the assumption that Workflow only uses whatever account the Laserfiche Workflow windows account is set to run as. Furthermore all programs installed in windows have access to C:\ProgramData regardless, this is the place where programs write to disk. We are not even meant to know it exists as users.

The service was running as Local System which has access to all disk areas, however just to test the theory I changed the service to run as my account instead. Since I am a local administrator I can write to this directory no problem, I created a file in there just to double check there was no unexpected or 3rd party security blocking me.

However workflow still states the exact same message, no access to the path.

Even stranger still is that why would any other program besides workflow ever write to a folder in here called WF, yet there are files being created in here on a daily basis. If workflow did not have access, who is writing here?

Anytime a program states it does not have access to C:\ProgramData, I expect a bug, because this should never be true unless someone was improperly configurating security in Windows.

*The drive is not full either

*Only one activity states this, Attach Electronic File with source being an activity

*There is a warning, but no error, from the activity it is attached to, the warning is about a required field being missing

The Windows account specified in the Workflow Server service login.

Open Services and look at the "Log On As" for the workflow service

Oh yes, this is what I thought it used, but it can not be true. It must either be using some other account when accessing ProgramData or it is not telling the truth about not having access.

You need to check what your Workflow server is set to log in as (most likely not using "Local System") and then make sure that the user has permissions to the folder location.

And that was the very first troubleshooting step, but I also am confused as to what IS writing there if it is true that it does not have access

Are you running the Workflow manually from the Designer?

No, these are run from a call in Forms, so they should be running as the service
