Question

Repository schema update 10.4 > 11 - estimated time to complete?

asked on November 28, 2022

Hi,

I'm planning a version upgrade of LFS from 10.4 to 11 this weekend and am aware the repository schema will be updated as part of this process and this can take some time. Are there any benchmarks as to how long this should roughly take? The repository SQL database is 100GB and we have a window of around 12hrs between the start of the upgrade and the system being available for testing.

Thanks,

Nigel.

Hi Nigel,

I've seen similarly sized repository databases take on the order of 15-30 minutes for the 10.4->11 schema update. If you want to be extra confident, take a backup of the repository database, restore it as a new database with a new name ("ProdRepoUpgradeTest" etc.), run contents of the attached SQL script against that copy, and time how long it takes. It's the exact script Laserfiche Server (LFS) will run for the automatic schema upgrade so the test run time should be very close to the actual.

The same script, as well as all other repository schema upgrade scripts, can be found in the Laserfiche Server 11 installation directory under "C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\Server\sql".

Reindexing the repository LFFTS search catalog (which I think 10->11 requires) is likely going to take significantly longer than the schema upgrade. However, unlike with the schema upgrade, the repository is generally available during search catalog reindexing.
