Question

Autofill PDF with variables from forms

asked on November 16, 2022

I'm working on a work accident/incident report using laserfiche forms. If the accident is eligible for workmans comp, HR has to complete a PDF with details of the accident and send it to our insurer.

My question is, is there a way to use workflow or some other tool to pull the variables from the accident/incident report and write them to the PDF?

Yes!  Workflow has built-in tools to do this.  You'll need to use the "Retrieve Business Process Variables" activity to get the values from your form in LFForms, and then you can use the "Fill Out PDF Form" activity to populate those values into the PDF.

The "Fill Out PDF Form" activity will want a copy of the PDF file to use as the "master".  It uses that to identify all the fields, etc.

There are lots of good help with the steps to do this throughout LFAnswers posts and in the LF Help files.  Good luck and have fun!

We use this quite a bit and works great as Matthew said. The one step I didn't get right away is the Attach Electronic Document. That goes before the Fill out PDF and that gets tied to the Master PDF file that Matthew mentions.
