Question

Toolbars in Web Client

asked on November 8, 2022

This is one of those "I can't believe he doesn't know this" questions...but here goes.  I don't have toolbars in the web client and I don't know how to enable them.  I can get to the Options menu and move items around that should show as toolbars.  I have read lots of documentation about how to customize toolbars.  But I can't see any toolbars.  In the desktop client I can see the toolbar but not in the web client.  What do I need to do to correct that?

To be clear, the toolbar refers to this section of the web client U:

The actions that are available to show there depend on the user's rights, but there should always be something. If that whole section is missing, my only guess would be something to do with the screen size, so you could try making the browser full-screen to see if that changes the layout at all.

Thanks for the reply.

I do have that part but it doesn't seem to be configurable at all.  When on the options screen I can add and remove items from the toolbar and it doesn't seem to have an effect.

In the documentation, Organizing and Customizing Your Toolbar, it mentions a "vertical dotted line to the left of the toolbar", but that doesn't seem to exist.  It also refers to different toolbars.

And right clicking the toolbar you reference opens the usual Windows menu...Back, Forward, Reload, etc.

Further down on the page Organizing and Customizing Your Toolbar...

Are the toolbars that this documentation is referencing the area over to the top right that you pictured?  It just seems like there should be more...

The details of how to do it will depend on the version you are using, and some of what you are quoting appears to be out-dated and doesn't apply to the current release. In version 11, configuration takes place in the Tools section of the Options page. That's where you get the drag/drop UI that is described.

We are using 10.4.

Jamie,

The documentation is outdated. Sorry about that, we'll fix it ASAP. The instructions are the same for 10.4 and 11 though.

From the menu off the user name in the top right corner of the web client, click Options. Then on the Options page, click Tools. You can then choose which toolbar you want to customize and which buttons will be displayed on your toolbar.

Thanks Miruna!

Please correct my assumptions here as needed...

- the location of the toolbar is the only location for the toolbar in the web client

- the toolbar will wrap into 'More Actions'

- if a particular tool doesn't apply to the selected document, instead of being greyed-out, it might not show up, ie 'Generate Pages', 'Generate Searchable Text', etc  (*BTW, that has been confusing for users)

I'm trying to migrate our users away from the desktop client to the web client and this has been a sticking point.  Being able to explain it to them will hopefully make that transition easier.

Thanks...

Jamie

Yes, those are all correct. The goal was to declutter the user interface and only show relevant actions. But i can see how that could cause confusion coming from the desktop client.
