Question

simple pattern match for date in quick fields

asked on November 4, 2022

Good afternoon everyone!

It may just be that its a Friday and I am just toast, but I seem to be struggling with getting pattern matching to work for a simple date field.  I have tried several variations from seasoned LF folks and can't get them to work.  I have tried the common expressions in the online help guides and even copied and pasted those thinking I was clobbering a syntax somewhere I wasn't seeing.  I can get it to work on the sample, but not on the scan or work on the scan but not on the test.  I can get gibberish or blank or a - 1 or a .11 or any combination thereof.  Please tell me 1. am I overthinking this, 2. is there a go to formula you use for a basic short date mask?  Any input is greatly appreciated!

Thanks in Advance!!!

I think we'd need to know a lot more specifics to help you.  Can you include some examples of the documents you're trying it on? And the date format you're trying to extract (e.g., 04/14/2022 vs. 4-14-22)? And the patterns you've tried to use?

I can get it to work on the sample, but not on the scan or work on the scan but not on the test.

Makes me think that your OCR accuracy may not be sufficient.  You should review the text extracted for the scanned documents in the Revision pane and make sure it's accurate enough to match your regular expression.  If you have OCR quality issues, those are going to be solved in a different way (setting performance to Accurate, image enhancements, etc.).

What is the formatting of your date? Try pulling a sample directly from your OCR Zone
