Web Services Test URL error - "The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden"

asked on November 1, 2022

Hello All,

I have a user that is trying to use Retrieve Business Process Variables and upon configuring the Web Services to access the Forms server, they are getting "The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden" when testing the URL.

I verified the workflow server is configured and connection verified successfully in Forms configuration (Forms_Workflow_Server.png).

When testing the URL, I tried using my admin credentials (Forms role = System Administrator) with the same results - error 403.

Verified the WorkflowWebDesignerAppPool is running on the workflow server (workflowWebDesignerAppPool.png).

Also attached is the CommunicationLog.png.

Any suggestions on what might be the cause of this issue or what else I can check?

Thanks for your time,

Lowell

How did you configure the Forms server on the workflow side under web services?

It should be configured with the "Laserfiche Forms" type, "https://server/forms", and usually default authentication.

The screenshots you showed are the connection to Workflow within Forms (i.e., Forms-to-WF), but it sounds like the problem your having is with the other side (i.e., WF-to-Forms).

Hi Jason,

Thanks for your reply.

I believe you are correct in that the issue lies with the workflow ---> forms connection.  Attached is a screenshot of the Web_Service connection.  I have tried it both ways and get the same 403 error.

I believe Forms connections in Workflow should typically use default authentication so it is using the workflow service account.

Also, try removing that extra / at the end of the URL.

What happens when you click "Test URL"?

Is there a reason you're trying to connect to a public URL rather than internal?

Typically, you should have an internal instance of Forms that is running the routing service, and that internal instance is what you should connect to from WF.

Thanks, Jason, for questioning that - I checked with the user again, and they indicated they are using one that is pointed to the internal server and says that one is working.
