Laserfiche Client Download Report

asked on October 26, 2022

When trying to download a report from the Laserfiche client the only option for Text > csv files are Microsoft Excel CSV files.  It appears as though it is replacing the comma's and TAB's.  Is there something I am missing somewhere on how to make this work like it used to?

Below is a screenshot of what I am referring to.

My tests have shown that for the Download > Download Report... > Text option you are actually getting a Tab-Delimited file.

For this I have seen that commas are fine (they are not removed or treated different than any other text) but Tabs depend on whether there is also a comma in the same field.

For Tabs you need a comma in the same field for the generated report to be stored correctly. That said Excel still displays it weird.

If there are tabs in a field that has a comma: the tabs are kept in the file and stored correctly but viewing it in Excel makes it appear to be removed when looking at the field in a list. NOTE: clicking on the individual cell will show it with the tab correctly.

If there is no comma in the same field: the tab is not removed but it is also NOT escaped so it will push all data after the tab over by one field per tab when you view the csv in Excel.

We have a user that has been downloading these reports for years like this and they have commas in them, until recently.  We actually open the files using Notepad++ since we need to replace the header row.

Since this started happening I have shown them how to find and replace the TAB to a comma in notepad++ but there must be a setting somewhere that we are missing.

Sorry, I don't think I have more to offer here. I am on Laserfiche 11 (11.0.2201.233) if that matters or helps.
