Question

Does FormsURI or FormsHostEmailOverride work for Load Balancing?

asked on August 30, 2022

In the Advanced Options for Laserfiche Forms white paper it talks about using the FormsURI and FormsHostEmailOverride values in the database in reverse proxy situations, but would it also be useful to use in load balancing situations?

I've noticed that when I receive a suspended notification that the link included in the email points to the Primary Forms server. Considering what the two database values do for reverse proxy situations, it make sense to me that they would be useful to change the link to point to the load balancing URL in the same way, but wanted to check if anyone has experience with this before making a change.

You can use the FormsHostEmailOverride option to customize the Forms Server URL used in the email notifications including task notification and process notification. Without customization, it will always use the Primary Forms Server URL in the notifications, after customization, it will use the value in the FormsHostEmailOverride when generate the links. So you can change the Forms Server URL in the email notifications to the load balancing cluster URL so end users will access the Forms Server with that URL.

Thank you for the clarification. What is the difference between the FormsHostEmailOverride and the FormsURI?

The FormsURI is used to control some links generated on the pages,  it will not affect the links generated in the email. Forms generates some links on the pages such as process link on the Process Options page based on the host from the web request. With reverse proxy configured, user accesses Forms with server name a but when the request reaches the Forms server the host in the request Forms application gets is server name b then Forms will generate the links on the pages as server name b. So to force Forms to generate links using the same host as the end users access Forms, you can add option FormsURI and provide the host value in it, the value format is as https://answers.laserfiche.com and it is different as value format for the FormsHostEmailOverride which is as https://answers.laserfiche.com/forms.
