Feature Request: Try-Catch Type of Event for Forms

asked on August 11, 2022

We have a good number of Laserfiche users in our organization and certain positions have more turn over than others. This causes us problems with Forms instances that go through approval processes because as users come and go, databases, etc. have to be updated to put the new people in place so that the instances don't suspend because the user couldn't be found.

It would be great if there was a Try-Catch type of event in Forms that would allow a User Task to be tried, but upon throwing a specific error, such as not being able to assign the task, it could take another path, such as another user task that is assigned to a manager instead. This would help cut down on the amount of intervention that the Laserfiche Admins have to do and help keep the process automated.

Love this idea! I guess a workaround, if possible (and using LFDS), could be to use an Active Directory group, which you would then add as a member of the Laserfiche Forms Participant licensing Active Directory group and add as a member to an LFDS group. Then, you could add that LFDS group as a member of the Team in Forms and assign the task to the Team. This way, if you ever have someone leave/join, you just have to add them to the initial AD group and the change makes its way through to Forms and the licensing is automatic.

The downside of this method is that, when assigning tasks to a Team that only has a group as a member, the task will not be assigned directly to the user, so they will have to assign it to themselves every time.
