Quick Fields - Select correct value from list if token is "close?"

asked on August 3, 2022 Show version history

I have a customer stating that a Quick Fields session they have used to select the closest match in a list field if the token used to populate that field didn't find an exact match. I've never done this before - is something like this even possible?

As an example, say Quick Fields is placing "ABC Vendor, Inc." into this list field. The customer is stating that if the value in the list is just "ABC Vendor" that Quick Fields would choose "ABC Vendor" from the list instead of the value from the token. This would happen within Quick Fields and not from a different process that would run after the document was stored. This customer also migrated from on-prem to Cloud - does Quick Fields behave differently with list fields on-prem vs Cloud?

Thanks!

As far as I know, Quick Fields has never had this sort of "fuzzy search" behavior for list fields, so I think your customer must be misremembering or have misunderstood the functionality.

When typing in a list field (or any drop-down list in Quick Fields, I believe), it will select the best list item based on multiple key strokes (e.g., "ABC" might select "ABC Vendor").

Without using scripting (or possibly regex for very specific cases, like removing the ", Inc." from "ABC Vendor, Inc."), I don't think this sort of list field fuzzy search is really possible in Quick Fields at this time.

Quick Fields does not behave differently for self-hosted vs. Cloud (beyond how the documents are stored/retrieved and authentication, of course).
