Is there a way to determine the current user assigned to a task?

Is there a way to determine the current user assigned to a task?  I need my catch timers to send the reminder email to the currently assigned user of the task.

Which version are you using? They added User Task Reminders in 10.4.5 which are meant to do that without the need for an external timer event.
