Question

Beginner needs help with connection string in "Manage Data Sources".

asked on July 11, 2022

Hi all, maybe I missed the helpful posts on Answers or it's buried in the docs somewhere.

Where can I find guidance for how to make a connection string? I am just guessing as to what to do from here. I am complete beginner and hopefully just need a nudge to get started. YouTube doesn't have videos from a LF perspective. Any help is appreciated.

Above, how do I know which one I need?

How do I know the data source type?

Not sure what to put here either.

It would depend on the type of data source you're trying to access. If you're trying to connect to a Microsoft SQL Server, you'd pick SQL. The other options refer to the selected data source type. For ex, if you go with SQL Server, the "server name" would the name of the SQL instance (either the machine name or machine\instanceName if you're using a named instance).

I would recommend using Windows ODBC rather than direct connections if you're not quite sure what is going on. Windows' wizard is a bit more powerful. And as a bonus, it makes it easier to move data sources to another machine if you ever need to upgrade servers.

Keep in mind that any "windows authentication" happens from the perspective of the Workflow Server's service account user, not the currently logged in Windows user.

Try this with Windows Authentication, using your Laserfiche Administrator Windows credentials.

Use your Laserfiche Database Server and Table Name for the next values.

Hope this helps!
