Question

The number of requests per day has been exceeded running a workflow in Laserfiche Cloud

asked on June 7, 2022

I know there are some API limits in # of requests per minute but the error I'm getting is

The number of requests per day has been exceeded. Try again later.

I cannot find anywhere in the documentation that describes a daily limit.  Can someone explain this one?

Thank you!

Hi David,

Kevin and I checked with the team and learned the 1k/day/domain limit is a soft one intended to prevent potential abuse. Since I assume you have a legitimate use case, you should be able to open a support case requesting a limit increase.

Make sure to include a description of the legitimate use case, the domain in question, and what you would need the outbound Web Request limit daily raised to.

We'll work on clarifying this process so others know that 1k is a default limit, not a hard cap, and how to request a raise. We may also increase the default limit in the future to reduce how often customers will need to open these support requests.

Update 6 June 2022:

We will be raising the default limit for outbound Web Requests to 5,000 per domain per day in the near future. Customers who have a legitimate need for more than 5k calls should submit a support ticket with a description of the use case, the domain in question, and how high they would like the limit raised.

I know there is a monthly limit based on the Laserfiche Cloud Subscription you have. Currently it is 50,000 calls/month for Professional and 100,000 calls/month for Business.

There are also API limitations mentioned on the Developers site, but I don't see anything about a daily limitation that is imposed.

The way it is always worded is that is your "allocation" so you have 600k per year but there is nothing I can find anywhere that says there are limits per day or per month. Only that you have a per-minute limit of 100 calls.

Actually I just found something that might have some indicator about this.

https://doc.laserfiche.com/laserfiche.documentation/en-us/Default.htm#../Subsystems/ProcessAutomation/Content/Resources/Service-Limits.htm%3FTocPath%3DProcess%2520Automation%7C_____5

This mentions this limitation:

Maximum web request count: 1000 requests per day per domain

I think this might be what I was hitting because we update another system via a web request.  1,000 per day seems pretty limiting if you think of a web request typically being a transaction.

If this limitation must stick does anyone know how to determine where you are within this limit so we can capture that and force a wait or something so that our workflows do not terminate?

Thank you!

Hi David,

When you're using a Web Request Rule, you can configure your Web Service Connection to use a Remote Agent instead of being sent directly from Laserfiche Cloud. In this case, there are no request limits. Does this work for your use case?

Thank you for this information.  At the moment, we were only hitting that due to some batch uploading we needed to do.  I will keep this in mind if we need to do other batch loads of our data.

Thank you!

Quick update:

We have upped Laserfiche API limit to 150,000 calls/month for Business Tier. It remains 50,000 calls/month for Professional.
