Question

Saving CSV file in Laserfiche and opening the file changes the date

asked on June 7, 2022

Hi,

We have users with intermittent issues where they save a CSV file in Laserfiche with a date format of dd/MM/yyyy and then it happens intermittently when they open the CSV file and it converts the date to MM/dd/yyyy. We are currently using Laserfiche Client 11 (11.0.2103.223).

Is there anything I can check to see why this would happen? I was not involved from the start, but apparently this has been a known issue in our environment on previous versions as well.

Appreciate any feedback

Kind Regards,

Gert

The Laserfiche client just hands the document off to the registered handler for the extension and doesn't modify the file itself. It's likely it's that application that is making the change. If you're using Excel, its unexpected behavior with CSV are well-known. I don't know if there's an Excel setting to make it less aggressive about changing date formats.

Thanks Brian, okay that makes sense. It will be the region settings that can cause this issues I see. Just needed to be sure it is not the Laserfiche client causing such issue. Date/time format changes when saving and reopening my excel file - Microsoft Community

Hi Brian,

I actually misunderstood the initial issue and possibly did not supply all the information. I was not aware that the issue actually happened through the Laserfiche MS Office Plugin. When I have a csv with date format dd/MM/yyyy then I am able to reproduce by opening the file in Laserfiche and then using the office plugin to save new version. The dates then change automatically to MM/dd/yyyy (see screenshot below). This does not happen if I have the file saved to my local drive out of Laserfiche, I can edit the file and save over and over.

Our Region settings are set to UK Format dd/MM/yyyy in the company.

Interesting. Maybe the Office Plugin is changing the locale settings for the process, or something. I'd suggest opening a support case so that we can take a closer look.

Our Vendor logged a support ticket in Feb 2020, this apparently happened with the previous versions as well. Here is the Support Case Number: 207610
