Question

Web Client - Add/Remove Fields - Hide Button or Hide Fields

asked on May 31, 2022

I have seen some older questions in regards to the add/remove button in the web client and it looks like it is not possible to hide the button. Is this still the case or is it possible to prevent the button from showing for groups with edit rights to the fields that are in the template?

Otherwise, is there a method to hide specific fields from being selectable when clicking the add/remove button?

There aren't separate rights for adding a new field vs modifying a field that is already assigned, so users who can do one will be able to do the other. Fields do have their own security, so if a user isn't able to read or write a field, they won't be able to add it to an entry and it shouldn't show up in the list.

That is unfortunate, it would be nice if i could at least hide the add/remove button for certain groups that are able to edit existing fields. Thank you.

I have been looking in to this and I have the same requirement. It is really difficult to ensure that staff don't bypass required fields by removing the template all together.

Having the ability to disable/hide the "Add/Remove Fields" button would be so much easier.

Removing the "No template assigned" option would be a bonus too.

There is a way to prevent template removal, you can add a field to a template and set the security to read only on this field. In my case i explicitly set Deny on Edit and Create just in case. Depending on how you set this fields visibility - if the user can see it in the template it will be greyed out and when they try to change the template it gives an error and if they cannot see it they will be able to 'change a template' but when they try to save the change it will error.

Unfortunately, users can still add fields but it does help a bit.

Thanks Kyle.
As far as I have worked out, that only helps once the template has already been applied.

If the user is importing a new document, even with the required template set as a default, they still have the option to set "No template assigned".

Yeah, unfortunately its not a full resolution. Our structure has specific templates in their own sub group so I can enforce templates with workflow and move files with missing data or incorrect templates to a need review folder but that also doesnt resolve people adding fields.
