Cloud Workflow: How do you search for a folder by its name?

asked on May 24, 2022 Show version history

In LF Cloud Workflow, I'd like to find a folder by name (the name will not always be the same nor will the path), then move a doument to that folder. How is the search accomplished?

Hi There!

Search by entry name in Cloud Workflow is now available in the 2022.12 release this last week.

How is the name being determined? Is it in the document metadata?

Not sure if this is the most efficient way, but you could try this:

Use the Search Repository activity, where the folder is the Fiscal Year of the document:

Limit to one result:

For Each Entry

So basically you are moving the document to the same folder as your first Search Repository result.

Thank you Michelle,

Sadly, the folder is named by account number. The account folder itself has no metadata, unfortunately.

In my workflow, the Account number is gathered from a pattern match from the incoming document name (it does not have the client name on the doc name).

The folder path will be variable, ie. \Client files\Rep Name\AlphaLetter\Client Name\{account number}.

I had built a different workflow to solve this problem, but it crashed the AWS SQL database and Laserfiche Support was forced to shut down the workflow. No kidding!

<RANT>If Cloud Workflow had a simple way to search for a folder or document by name, I wouldn't have had to build a complicated workflow that broke their Cloud SQL database! Are you listening Laserfiche? <END OF RANT>

I agree, having to think of all these workarounds in Cloud is definitely challenging. Can you replace that Fiscal Year token in my screenshot with your Account Number token?

Hi Michelle,

I can't be so precise.  The folder could be anywhere.
