New Form Designer - Lookup rule does not trigger until you leave the field that's supposed to trigger the Lookup

asked on May 16, 2022

I have a form with lookup rules that should trigger when a value is selected from the Salesperson drop-down.  Unfortunately, it appears that the rules only trigger after you leave the Salesperson drop-down by clicking elsewhere on the form or pressing the Tab key on your keyboard.

In this form , there are no other fields after the ones that are to be filled by the lookup rules.  It is, therefore, possible that the user will simply click the Submit button after selecting the Salesperson.  When this happens, the lookup rules appear to get triggered, but so does the message for missing required fields.

Would it be possible to have the lookup rule trigger as soon as a value is selected from the Salesperson drop-down?

The related bugs have been fixed with Forms 11 Update 3.

  • Lookup rules based on a dropdown field are now triggered when the choice is selected. (378230)
  • Auto suggestion of single line populated by lookup results is no longer cut off. (378863)

It is a bug for lookup with drop-down field, we will improve it in future release. Can you change the salesperson to a single line field as workaround?

Thanks for verifying that this is a bug.  As a workaround I'm going to put these fields at the top of the form so the user completes this section first and then the rest of the form.

Also, please note that a single line text box with a selection list populated by a lookup rule will not show all possible selections when it's positioned at the bottom of the form.  The list gets cut off.

Thanks.

Hi Mike,

The issue that the selections returned from lookup for single line field are not show when single line is positioned at the bottom of the form is also a bug. The recorded bug ID is 378863.
