Question

Windows 11 client compatibility

asked on April 20, 2022

Our desktop team has been rolling out Windows 11 and our users are frustrated (to put it mildly) because they are unable to use the Windows client any more. They really miss the smoothness and quality of the Windows product, which the web client can't begin to match.

My questions are really two:

  1. Has anyone else had this problem?
  2. We're running Laserfiche 10. Does upgrading to LF 11 solve the problem?

Thank you for your help.

The latest version of the Laserfiche 10 desktop client (10.4.2) and Laserfiche 11 desktop client are supported on Windows 11. We have no plans to test or support older versions of Laserfiche 10 on Windows 11 (though, it is likely they'll be fine).

As far as issues goes, i have seen Workflow Server fail to install because Windows 11 did not have the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Runtime installed. And manual installation of the runtime failed. Though, installing Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Runtime Service Pack 1 succeeded and that allowed the Workflow installation to succeed as well. This will affect all versions of Workflow.

Out of curiosity, was the desktop client not installed on Windows 11 because you ran into issues or as a way to push people to move to the web client? Do you mind giving us more details on what functionality your users miss the most?

I think the main reason (besides intertia) is that in our installation the web client requires users to sign in every time, a process which takes a half-minute or more due to slow server response to the login credentials. The Windows client, on the other hand, lets users access the repository any time they wish using the credentials they already entered when logging into their PCs.

Hello,

To follow up on this, we have a customer who has the LF Windows Client 10.4.2.256 installed on their workstation and their IT just updated their Windows OS to 11 Pro and now they are experiencing the following:

"The LF Scanner path has been broken.  And now flags an output log error that indicated the "Interface not registered".

After troubleshooting, it has been determined that the image processing "rotate" and "OmniPage OCR" are causing this flag (or are contributors).

Also, the default folder path; the scan is only making it the the temp portion of this path and the only file sitting in the Laserfiche Scanner folder is the example scan. (don't know it that will mean anything other than all the temp scans are being stored in the temp folder and not the Laserfiche Scanner folder).

Please note that the scans are able to be uploaded into the repository with no issues, the only issue is that the output log is flagged for every scan that is scanned and I would prefer to view the Thumbnails during my scanning sessions."

They are on LF Server 10.4.3.115.

I have requested they run a repair of the LF Client, but wanted to see if what I posted is a known issue with the LF Windows Client and Windows 11 Pro.

Thanks,

Jeff Curtis

This exact thing just started happening to me today; it was working normally Friday. Did your customer ever get any kind of resolution? ETA - I have had Windows 11 installed for quite some time now, although it could perhaps be an issue with the latest Windows update?

 Thank you
