Inconsistent Search Results Laserfiche desktop client Advanced Search

asked on April 6, 2022

We are using version 10.2 of Laserfiche desktop client. We drive our user permissions based on Active Directory group memberships.  I have three users who are all in the exact same groups working in the same department who all get different results when conducting a search.  I also tried eliminating the local system by having one of the users log into my system and login to my desktop client as themselves and run the exact same search that I had just run after adding my account to the same groups he is in.  I saved the search after I ran it and then loaded that search to run it for him to ensure it was exactly the same.  It even kept the user ID we were searching for in the test when we loaded that search.

He did not return any results which has been consistent with what they are reporting.  They are reporting that this user doesn't get any search results whereas his counterparts do.

The search options are Filed, Name and within folder

Under Field we are searching by template for a specific ID in a field in our tests, under name folder is checked but no value entered

under within folder we have the root repo folder selected and include subfolders selected.

Can anyone advise me why different users all assigned the same LF security groups would get different results?

Thank you.

Hi Mark-

Most likely it's a security issue. Perhaps this user is part of another group that has been denied somewhere along the line?

You can investigate by looking at the Effective Rights of one of the documents that you can bring up in search. After right-clicking to get to Access Rights, click the Effective Rights tab and Choose the user. Then toward the bottom click the hyperlink thing to turn on detailed info. Select a right (Browse or Read should be sufficient) and it should show you if it's being denied somewhere.

@████████ Thank you for that excellent spot check.  I will try to make nice screenshots as you did.  I have one here.  In effect, I followed your advice and the effective permissions match up the same among the user accounts.

OK, craziest thing.  Tried removing and re adding user to the same security groups and have had it reported back that he now gets search results.

That does sound a bit weird, but glad to hear you got it working.
