Question

Web Access Extension Registry Settings

asked on March 15, 2022

We are working on adding the Laserfiche Web Access Extension to an image for a virtual machine and when we install the extension, it is defaulted to not enabled.  Does anyone know of a registry setting or a way to force the extension to be enabled by default so the users are not prompted the first time they access the Laserfiche web client?

Since this is a browser extension, the supported distribution mechanism will really depend on the browser. I believe Chrome does document how to push one out with group policy.

Brian...we are able to push the extension out, we are looking for a way to make the extension active by default for a new user on the computer.  When the user opens the web client for the first time, they are prompted to activate the extension and we do not want this.  Do the programmers who developed the extension at Laserfiche know if there are any registry settings that can be set to achieve what we desire?

I haven't used the extension recently, but I am pretty sure we don't have an activation dialog (that is, there wasn't one in my original implementation and I don't recall one being added since). Are you sure that's not Chrome putting up the dialog? It sounds similar to this thread.

That said, the extension has been phased out in favor of the Web Tools Agent, available since 10.4.2. It's a stand-alone application that doesn't require a browser extension to augment the functionality of the web client.

Brian...where can I get the Web Tools Agent for downloading and to also install on the persons computer?  Is this in the Laserfiche install files for version 10.4.2?

It's downloadable directly from the Options page under Advanced, but for distribution that's not really how you want to go about it. The Agent itself provides very little functionality on its own, it's more of a bridge to applications like Scanning, and is included in those installers.

You can download Scanning and Office Plugin from the UI, or access them directly from C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\Web Access\Web Files\Scanning and C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\Web Access\Web Files\OfficePlugin.
