Weblink 11 - Custom Search Forms -

asked on March 14, 2022

Who misses weblink version 9? I do :-(

We created a good amount of custom web search portals for certain document types that will only search in certain folders or use only templates. In version 9 it was an easy process to create a custom search and add the constraints to that custom search.

Is it just me or does version 11 not work the same way? I can't seem to get my custom search portals on look where I'm telling it to? Is there any documentation on how to build a custom search in weblink 11 that you can lock down based on constraints?

Hey Ivan, when I want to search through multiple templates I create something like this:

Hi Sean,

I reached out to VAR to get some help this was the command I used to get it to work finally.

I see you did something similar I created DocType that tied  1 field from another template so it can sort correctly.

Now I'm starting to like the new version.

Hi Ivan,

The WebLink Designer interface is different but the same functionality is there. You'll find it in Designer under "Welcome Page" -> "Search Forms" - "New Search Form" -> "Search Results". From there, you can add custom constraints/parameters to the search in addition to those from the search fields. They can be either hardcoded or use variables from the search form fields.

The biggest issue I have right now is that I can't do a multi-template search when I also add the lookin syntax for a folder.

Pictures below are from weblink version 9. How I configured previously to search across 3 different templates from one location.

Is this what you're looking for? Three different templates, one path (with subfolders):

Created the filter you posted. No luck getting any results on my end.

For some reason when I add multiple template names my result go down to 0?

Can you double check that you have the Template search group set to "meet any constraint" instead of "meet all constraints", and that the Custom Template searches are all underneath the "meet any constraint" group? You have to somewhat awkwardly drag and drop the search boxes under the group.

Thanks for that tip.  that option is not user-friendly, I hope they fix it in the future. The next issue is selecting the right template? I'm not getting all the records back?

I see that it now works when all 3 templates are selected. but is there a way to make it where I can have a box that will allow me to select individual templates to search instead of all at once.?
