Forms: Need ability to preview images uploaded in native iPhone format

posted on March 3, 2022

We have an Expense Report form that uses an Upload button in a Collection.  When we upload images taken in the Mobile app the image preview works great.  However, some users need to choose Upload File and upload the native iPhone image format.  When these files are uploaded, there is no image preview.

Can the image preview feature be enhanced to allow the preview of these native image formats?  We can't always use Upload Image in the mobile app because it locks up the app if the user has a large image gallery on their phone.

Hi Mike, currently for mobile app, only iOS can preview .HEIC image when upload the image/file and we could not reproduce the issue on our end. Can you open a support ticket to provide more details about how the app locks up and a .HEIC image that has no preview for you?

Forms uses the browser native feature to display the image, but no browser support .hiec image format natively, see https://caniuse.com/?search=heic. Even you can preview the image when upload through Mobile app, but to view such image from anywhere else such as Windows 11, it will need extra work such as installing an extensions(https://www.howtogeek.com/345504/how-to-open-heic-files-on-windows-or-convert-them-to-jpeg/).

We will take a look at the issue that it locks up the Mobile app if the user has a large image gallery on their phone.

Thanks for looking into the problem of the app locking up when the user has a very large image gallery.  I do believe that if the issue is resolved it will be a better solution to use Upload Image instead of Upload File since the HEIC files cannot be viewed natively in web browsers.

Please let me know if you need any further information from me.

Hi Mike, we cannot reproduce the issue that the Mobile app locks when user has a large image gallery on their phone. Please open a support case with your Solution Provider and provide more details such as a recorded video to illustrate the issue and provide the number of images in the gallery.
