Issues with Date Display in Table Merge on Update Word Document in Workflow

asked on March 1, 2022 Show version history

Can anyone help me out on a date field in a table merge when updating a word document in workflow?  I have it filling just fine.  But I can't get it to remove the time from the date.

My data is coming from a form submission.  On the form I DO NOT have show time checked.

On a single field merge it puts just the date in using default in the Type and default in the options.  It is only on the table merge that it always adds the time.

On the single field merge I am pulling a date from a single date field on the form.  On the table merge, I am pulling the dates from a date field in a table.

Under Type, I have tried default, string, and date/time.  Under Options I have left it as default and tried to use default with custom properties for date formatting.  No matter what combination I try it always shows the time.

Thanks for any hints and help I can get.

You can format the merge field in Word. See this page for an example.

It took a little bit of trial and error to figure out how to apply the formatting on the word document but finally got it working.

I would go in to the Token Dialog and "Apply Formatting" to the relevant token like this...

See if that works.

I wish it were that easy.  That is for a simple mail merge.  In a table mail merge you don't get a token dialog box.

In a table merge you have to choose your data source and when you go to match the value, all you get is a drop-down list of the fields in your data source.  In my case it is just the columns of the table I am pulling from on the form.  No way to get at the formatting within the dialog box.

Could you do it with the "Assign Token Values" tool in the Workflow beforehand?

Still no luck.  I pulled all the dates into a token, formatted them, then fed them back to the data source.  Tokens show that the value has no time with it.  But as soon as it is added to the word document it adds the time.
