Sometimes this Date Picker icon takes up valueable real estate on the form. I have been known to use javascript to hide it. It would be nice if this option were a built-in check box to hide or show the icon.

I see that they did that in the new designer now...
I second your motion!

Well, would you look at that.
Yea. It would help if we could actually use the Modern Form Designer more to realize these improvements. :)
I'm certainly going to try every chance I get.
The problem is if I start in the Modern Form Designer and then reach a point in the Design that I realize I need some js to accomplish the business need, I have to rebuild the entire thing in Classic. If I could revert to Classic, I would be inclined to start building there every time.
For classic form designer, if the icon is moved inside the field input as new form designer, you will no longer need to option to hide it, right?
Well now I have a client wanting to hide it still. The issue is that when they enter 8 digits for their birthdate without slashes it doesn't set to the right date they entered. Date Picker not very user friendly when entering a birthdate. They'd rather just type it in.
You can only select a date from the date picker. Even if you hide the date picker, if you type a value without slashes, it will not be recognized as well. The date picker helps user to set the right value without worrying about the format.
The date picker has been moved into the input for classic form in Forms 11 Update 3 to save space:
