VolCon Consistency Checker Error: "Parameter name: encryptedData"

asked on January 10, 2022 Show version history

We received the following error in our event log:

"A volume data file is missing an expected checksum."

I tried to run VolCon, but receive this error message:

"Value cannot be null. Parameter name: encryptedData"

This seems like a permissions issue?? We have the drive with our volumes on it encrypted with bitlocker and our SQL databases also encrypted, but this looks like something else. It can't read the value.

Also, to test, I created a new test volume on an unencrypted drive. I tried to run VolCon on that new test drive and received the same error message.

Has anyone seen this before or know anything about it?

Thanks!

It looks like it is failing to read the connection string, which is stored encrypted in the registry. Are you running this on the LFS machine? If so you should probably open a support case.

Yes I am running on the LFS machine. Thanks for the clarification. I'll open a case.
