Version control on metadata for files/folders

asked on December 16, 2021

Hi,

Is version control available on the metadata of a folder and/or file? If not, is this something in the pipeline?

Use case: We are currently testing applying a template with fields to a folder. We would love to have the metadata tied to that folder keep track of changing metadata values over time natively within LF, to determine at a minimum who did the change and which values changed (ex. Field A changed from "1" to "2", Field B changed from "test" to "testing" in version 2 of document, by user ABC).

It doesn't seem like folders as-is have version control on them (as the metadata is the only data it can hold), unlike files where version control can exist for document content, but don't think the metadata tied to that document is version controlled.

I know this type of "auditing" would be do-able with some kind of LF Workflow (to a certain degree) and stamp everything in a DB, but would be nice to have it built into the application.

Or is there a special setting somewhere that can activate this for us?

Thanks!

Audit Trail can also track metadata changes on folders. If you have Audit Trail linked in Web Client config, you can launch an audit report on folder entry directly from within Web Client.

I don't believe version control is available for Folders.

However, any change to a document (metadata, pages/images, electronic files, etc.), is tracked if version tracking is enabled for the document.
