Question

Open html files via Web Client

asked on November 16, 2021

Hi,

We have a client who are storing a large volumes of html files in their repository and opening them via the Web Client. Across multiple browsers though it is necessary to download the file in order to open it as that file format is not handled natively and is classed as an electronic document. I know you can configure the browser to automatically open certain extensions but it still downloads the file locally.

Given that these are html files anyway, is there no way to open them in a new browser tab directly without the need to download them, as per PDF and Office documents? The text preview is OK but it doesn't render the document as well as a native viewer.

Thanks,

Nigel.

Unfortunately this is really hard to do safely. Serving a web page from the web client in a way that it simply displays in a tab makes it part of the application, from a security perspective. A malicious user could do some real damage by including javascript in the page.
