Hello,

We are working with a customer who has recently been having issue with the IA Email Archiver pulling in emails with attachments larger then 50MB.

This customer worked with one of your Developers and they edited the config file entry for MaxEmailSize bumping it to 150MB, but this did not resolve the issue.

I see in the Editing the Laserfiche Email Archive Service's Configuration File webpage the MaxEmailSize entry states that 20971520 is maximum email size in bytes that Laserfiche Email Archive can accept when using SMTP.

I wanted to see if anyone is using IMAP and if you were able to increase this MaxEmailSize beyond the 20MB range and successfully import those emails into LF.

Hi Jeff,

Per Editing the Laserfiche Email Archive Service's Configuration File, the MaxEmailSize config parameter is only applicable to SMTP and not applicable to IMAP. I would guess that means there's no limit or at least that it's much higher.

@████████ do you know if there's a max attachment size limit for IMAP configs?

Also, is 20971520 the max for SMTP or just the default? If that's just the default, what is the max for SMTP?

The documentation linked above indicates it's just the default, though it doesn't specify if there's a ceiling on the max value. Maybe Tixania knows the answer.

Either way, we strongly discourage use of SMTP with Email Archive. It is officially depreciated due to the potential for data loss (not a theoretical risk) and its weaker network security model. We recommend anyone with existing Email Archive SMTP configurations update them to use IMAP at the soonest opportunity and that all new configurations use IMAP from the start.

Hi Jeff，

Can I know what is the specific error you met when using IMAP to import large emails?

In our testing, we can successfully import an email with 35MB attachments using IMAP.

Hello Tianxia,

Customer is trying to import email attachments that are larger then 50MB and Email Archiver will not process it, no errors recorded.

@Samuel Carson- It would be nice to get clarification on Default size for both SMTP and IMAP.
