Question

Unable to case object of type 'iTextSharp.text.pdf.PdfName' to 'iTextSharp.text.pdf.PdfString'

asked on October 31, 2021

Dear all,

When I import many files (including pdf files), I received the following error message to some of the pdf files.

Import Error

There was an error importing 'mserry-7325-2021-Apr-13-03-59-47-TeachingLearningEnhancementTravelGrantMohamedSerry.docxFlatten.pdf':

Unable to cast object of type 'iTextSharp.text.pdf.PdfName' to type 'iTextSharp.text.pdf.PdfString'.

Whenever I press Retry File, it fails. The only choice I have is to skip importing this file.

I cannot share a sample since these files include signatures.

Kindly advise how can I resolve this issue to be able to import these files.

I was able to import the files when I unchecked Generate Pages and also unchecked Generate Text

Were you ever able to generate pages and text for the problem file? We came across this same issue this morning. Manually generating text works for some pages, but many give the same error. Initially, I thought the issue was page size or orientation, but that hasn't panned out. I just opened a ticket with our SP for assistance.

This issue has been addressed in Laserfiche 11.

As a workaround, can you Snapshot the problem file(s)?

I tried that, as well as Print to PDF. Both work, but change the pages to 8.5x11 portrait. This file has a mixture of sizes and orientations that need to be retained. I haven't found out yet how the file was created; hopefully that will lead to some more answers.
