Need help to migrate SQL Express to SQL PRO

asked on October 15, 2021

I all!

I need to some help please.

My customer using SQL Express and Microsoft SQL Server Express has a 10 GB maximum database size.

Unfortunately, we have already reached this quota and we need to migrate to SQL Pro.

I don't know how to do.

Do you have some docs about how to migrate please? Or more better, do you have software that can do this for me?

What is the steps? (Should I save the database first?)

Any help is welcome.

Thanks in advance.

One thing to keep in mind is that an Avante system may need a license upgrade to utilize SQL Server instead of using SQL Server Experss.

Hi Craig.

thanks for your return.

What kind of upgrade? Should I need to change Avante for Rio?

There is a license for Avante that is for SQL Server.  I believe if you log into support.laserfiche.com and using the drop down menu under your user name in the upper right hand corner, you should be able to see an option to see what your customers keys are - it should show you how it is licensed.  Or you can reach out to your Laserfiche regional rep for assistance.

Hi Craig.

It looks like my customer didn't renew the LSAP. I don't see him in the list. It looks like I can't ask Laserfiche for help.

I think if they were interested in upgrading their Avante License for SQL Server then they'd probably need to become current on the LSAP.

Couple things.

1. Have they looked at the database pruning options that are now available in latest version of Forms?

2. Are you now licensed for SQL Server? If this instance allows public submissions, you need core based licensing. No special licensing is needed for Laserfiche forms.

3. As far as moving databases over, it is simple though. Usually I just export a backup from the old SQL Server and Import on the new side. This will work assuming the SQL server version is the same or greater. After imported on the new side, take the old one offline then rerun through the FormsConfig setup to repoint SQL. There are many guides on how to do this for SQL  that are not specific to Laserfiche

Hi John

Thanks for the help.

1. The options to pruning database is not available in this version of Forms. I need to upgrade. I tried it on my desktop and I killed the database. I need more practices before to do it on my customer.

2. I don't know if i'm licensed for SQL Server. How can I check ?

3. Where can I find the guides? Do you have urls or pdfs? Thanks in advance.
