Question

Conditional to Determine if Existing Shortcut Exists (Best Practice?)

asked on October 11, 2021

Hello,

I'm wondering if anybody knows of a good way to determine if a shortcut to a given entry already exists within a folder. I've seen a couple of posts that mention ways of doing this (to prevent duplicate shortcuts from being created), but all of them seem to be overly complicated (perhaps necessarily so) given the task at hand.

Is there someway to determine if a shortcut to an entry already exists using a Conditional Sequence? It seems like there might be a way to do this given the 'is in'/'is not in' options, but I'm not sure how to go about it.

Thanks!

Hi Robert-

There may be a way, but what I've done is a different type of workaround. There is a Delete Shortcuts activity, so for my workflow, I'll just have it delete any and all shortcuts to the source entry, then create the new one in the folder where I want it.

Luckily this has worked well enough for me; could cause problems if users like to create their own shortcuts for some reason.

Not a perfect solution, because your right it could cause problems if there are already shortcuts. But even so, thank you! It looks like this will work for my use case, which is a relief in of itself.
