Features Request - Make Forms Repository Connections work like Cloud

posted on September 27, 2021

In cloud you can have a single repository master configuration and reference it with all your Forms processes.

This would be nice for On-Prem. Not only to save time, but to save mistakes, like someone entering their personal credentials instead of the service credentials.

We've heard it before and we understand the use case of global repository connection, but we have some access rights concerns such as who can use the global repository connection as the global one usually defined by system admin and use a credential that have super rights to the repository.

I believe in cloud anyone can use the master connection profile, but unlike workflow, they can't delete or read anything from the repository through forms. The only thing they can do is save new data and create folders.

You could treat it like a Data Source so it's subject to Data Source security. Better than having to distribute the actual service account credentials to people so they can create the profiles.

Another way sort of like Chad suggested would be for LFS to have a built-in FORMS$ account that only has permissions to create entries and write any metadata. Forms could handshake with LFS to set a secret password for the account similar to Workflow Subscriber. This would help reduce people giving their Forms service accounts many unnecessary rights and privileges.

I'll second this request.

What I've done to sort of "simulate" that feature in self-hosted Forms is to make a process with a Save to Repository service task, set the repo connection profile up with the service account I want everyone to use, and name it something like "[Process Template] COPY THIS TO MAKE A NEW PROCESS".

A central connection profile store is obviously preferable, but the above does still help save time and avoid mistakes.

Oh yea I think you recommended that once, will remember to start including that in my trainings. Especially since that way the user doesn't need to write down the Forms service password somewhere since it asks for it every time.
