Question

How to change the UUID of a backup database?

asked on September 20, 2021

Trying to restore an old backup of the repository database for browsing. I am attaching the database as a second repository and it says "Another Repository with the same UUID already exists", which would be the primary repository.

How do I change the UUID of the backup database so that I can attach it and browse the historical state.

I found this utility but it throws an error Unable to connect to the SQL database. This is after I manually type the database name because the list will not populate, since it can not connect for some unknown reason.

can connect using the SQL Studio program so is there a script I can run instead?

Is the repository in question an LF10 or 11 one? If so, the linked utility doesn't work. The page says:

Note: This utility does not currently support Laserfiche Server 10 repositories.

There in a newer, beta version of the utility that does support LF10 (not yet tested on 11). Because it's technically still a beta, it's not publicly posted on the Support site yet. I've personally used it in a few different environments without issue. Please open a support case to request it referencing this Answers post and they should be able to provide you with the new version.

They are on version 10 and I was able to get it to run for some reason using a remote server, before I was running it directly from the SQL server.

It ran for many hours but eventually did the job.

This is just so that we could browse a copy of the database from months ago and it is allowing us to browse the old repository now which meets the need. We are just researching a data inconsistency.
