Question

PDF Body Missing When Imported into Laserfiche

asked on August 12, 2021

Observed behaviour:

We have a new vendor whose PDF, when brought into Laserfiche from either:

1. Quick Fields

2. Import Agent

is showing up without the body, only the logo at the top of the page.

Caveats:

1. When the file is drag-and-dropped into Laserfiche, the image is complete.

2. We have 180+ other vendors that are OCRing correctly.

Has anyone had a similar experience? I am assuming it has to do with how the vendor is creating their PDF.. maybe something to do with layers of the image? TIA for any insight

Hi Elven,

Can you please update to Import Agent 10.4.0 Update 4 and see if the issue persists?

Import Agent 10.4.0 Update 3 (which Update 4 supersedes) includes a fix for an issue that sounds very similar to yours:

  • Page generation in Import Agent no longer loses all text from PDF Version 1.4 files produced by Skia m81-m83. (298762)

This was caused by a bug in one of the 3rd party libraries Import Agent uses. An updated version of that library fixed the bug, and the Import Agent update now uses the latest.

If the update doesn't fix the issue, can you please have your Solution Provider open a support case referencing this post and including a few of the PDFs experiencing the issue so we can examine and test them?

Thanks,
Sam

Sam, the import agent update worked perfectly! Would there happen to be an update for Quick Fields as well? We're hoping to build a class for the vendor to pull the metadata. TIA!

Great!

think Quick Fields 11 contains the same 3rd party library update as Import Agent there. Give it a try and let us know!

Hello Elven,

Check to see what PDF application they are using.  I have seen this issue with FoxIT and some current releases.

Also I have seen this issue with PDF's created via DocuSign as well.

Best of Luck,

Jeff Curtis
