Question

Word document page count

asked on August 4, 2021

When I move WORD documents into Laserfiche the page count in the web is about 1 or 2 pages off what the page count is for the original document. When I move documents into the Laserfiche desktop the page count is correct. Do I have an outdated version of Laserfiche that causes the wrong page count in Laserfiche web?

Here is the version of the web client:

Laserfiche Web Client                                    10.3 (10.3.0.510)

Laserfiche Repository Access                         10.3.0.229

Hi Sandy,

The "Pages" count isn't wrong, it's just (confusingly) not what you'd intuitively think it is.

For Office documents, Laserfiche is slicing the text stream into text pages with fixed line length (e.g. 80 lines a page) and reporting on the number of those. This provides a "page" count independent of font size, formatting, etc.

Word documents don't actually even have a "page count" property we can read and report on. When you open one in Word, it calculates the page count on the fly. You can see this happening in real time in the bottom left-hand corner of Word with a large enough document.

If you import a PDF into Laserfiche and don't generate (image) pages or text, it won't report a page count at all for the same reason.

Hope that sheds some insight.

Cheers,
Sam

Thank you so much. That makes totally sense.
