Cloud Workflow - Why can't I view the native text of a text file?

asked on August 1, 2021

If I have a text document in the repository and I try to retrieve document text, it doesn't retrieve any text unless I manually generate text.

I don't see why I need to generate anything if I am working with a native text file. Workflow does not have a generate text option, only retrieve text, this is why I am working with a native text document to begin with.

Capture profiles do not seem to have an option to generate text, only OCR options zones, I don't even have an image to OCR.

I just want to retrieve the text from a native text document that was uploaded via a form submission.

Retrieve Document Text reads the document's text pages. If you have the text file imported as an electronic document, then there are no pages to read until you generate pages.

There is no generate text option in either Workflow or Forms though. How can it be done?

Workflow does not convert any electronic documents to image/text pages, but Forms should be following the file conversion for the user specified in the connection profile for the Save to Repository task.

In the cloud, you'll need to set the [‏Options]‏ImportConversionList attribute on ProcessAutomationUser. The value should be a comma-delimited list of extensions (no periods). For ex: tif, tiff, bmp, pcx, jpg, jpeg, txt, gif, png, log

The attribute will apply to new connections made by the ProcessAutomationUser, so it might not apply immediately, depending on how busy your account is.

Running into an error with this setting, below. I can successfully generate text manually on the same file. For some reason Forms doesn't like it.

Lfi_GetFileInfo failed.(Stream: length 974)(HRESULT: 0x88982F07 : WINCODEC_ERR_UNKNOWNIMAGEFORMAT)

Please open a support case and indicate the repository/account where this happened so we can track it down.

Ok, I just tried copying an pasting the CSV data directly into a multi-line field and passing it that way, but when passing from forms to workflow somehow all the lines returns are removed.

Yes, stripping formatting from any text pasted into multi-line fields is expected behavior.

Kathleen was following up from a VAR webinar and provided a solution. If we rename the file extension to .txt, the text is available without any custom attributes or generating text.
